An 18-year-old NEET aspirant from Jammu and Kashmir allegedly hanged herself from the ceiling fan of her paying guest room here at Pratap Chouraha in Kota, police on Monday said.

This is the 15th such incident this year and second this month alone.

Before she killed herself Sunday evening, the girl, Zeeshan, spoke to a relative of hers on the phone and told him that she might commit suicide before hanging up, Circle Inspector Ramesh Kavia, posted at Mahaveer Nagar Police Station, said.

Quoting Excelsior, police officer Ramesh Kaviya said the student, identified as Zeeshan, had moved to Kota after doing online coaching from home last year. She had been staying at a hostel in Mahavir Nagar Third for the past seven days.

Kaviya said that on Sunday around 4 pm, she was on a call with a boy, also from Jammu and Kashmir, when she took the extreme step. The boy then informed another girl, who rushed to the hostel and knocked on the door, but there was no response.

Some youths working nearby were called to help. They broke open the door and found the girl unresponsive. She was taken to the new hospital of the medical college, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

The hostel room has been sealed and will be opened in the presence of family members. The body has been kept in the hospital mortuary. Police said the reason for the incident is yet to be ascertained and investigation is ongoing, Excelsior reported
